Hawn Reveals Home Break In
Actress Goldie Hawn recently opened up about the alarming increase in crime in Los Angeles, revealing that her own home has been burglarized twice within a span of four months. The 78-year-old shared her experiences during an appearance on the SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.”
Hawn discussed the unsettling incidents with Ripa, mentioning that she and her longtime boyfriend, Kurt Russell, have even contemplated relocating due to the city’s deteriorating safety. “What if we couldn’t live in L.A, where would we live? We both decided, I think it’s Palm Desert (California). … It’s so safe,” Hawn told Ripa.
Detailing the first burglary, Hawn recounted that she and Russell had been out for just two hours when they returned to a ransacked home.
“We came back and went in the house. I went up the stairs and I walked into my closet. I just lost it,” Hawn said. The burglars had broken in through the balcony to their bedroom, targeting their closets. “They completely knocked down my door, which is a safe door, so they’re very, very sophisticated, and they got a lot of my goodies, if you know what I mean.”
Hawn initially thought such a traumatic event would be a one-time occurrence. “So, I’m thinking, ‘Oh, my God, so the chances are, I guess that’s it,’” Hawn recalled. “It’s gotta be. The odds are that’s not gonna happen again.”
However, just four months later, Hawn experienced another terrifying intrusion. She was home alone with her dog when she heard a loud noise upstairs. “I hear this big thump upstairs — and I was alone; Kurt wasn’t there — and I went, ‘What the hell was that?’” she recounted.
Initially thinking it might be a sonic boom or some other strange occurrence, Hawn discovered the next day that someone had attempted to break into her bedroom while she was inside the house.
“That’s terrifying,” Ripa responded, capturing the gravity of the situation.
Hawn expressed her disbelief and frustration over the repeated break-ins. “I couldn’t believe it. What is happening here?” she said. In response to these frightening events, Hawn has since taken additional security measures. “I’ve had a guard, especially when I’m alone now,” she shared. “I’m never without a guard. We have a nice relationship with our guard.”
The incidents have not only highlighted the increasing crime rates in Los Angeles but also underscored the vulnerability felt by even high-profile individuals. Hawn’s candid discussion sheds light on the broader issue of urban safety and the lengths to which people must go to protect themselves and their homes.
