Anderson Cooper Comments On Cohen Testimony
Last week, the New York hush money trial of former President Donald Trump took an interesting turn as his legal team cross-examined star witness Michael Cohen. This development caught the attention of CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, who is known for his criticism of Trump.
“I’ve got some dope has been harassing me, I got the person’s phone number, who can I talk to?” Cohen had texted Trump’s former bodyguard Keith Schiller at around 7:50 PM on October 24th, according to Cooper’s report. This was believed to be the phone call in which the discussion about payments to Stormy Daniels took place.
During the cross-examination, Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche brought up the fact that Cohen had received a series of crank calls from a 14-year-old before this fateful call with Keith Schiller. Blanche noted that Cohen had texted Schiller about this before their phone call, raising questions about the accuracy of Cohen’s testimony. Blanche then pointed out that Cohen had a pattern of feigning confusion when cornered or caught in a lie.
Even for someone like Cooper, who has been known to criticize Trump heavily, this cross-examination was impressive. “It was an extraordinary cross-examination by Todd Blanche,” Cooper said. “Cohen’s defense team is not making it easy for him.”

This trial, which has been built around Cohen’s testimony, is starting to look like a lost cause for the prosecution. Cohen, who has pleaded guilty to several charges, including lying to a financial institution, is quickly becoming the prosecution’s weakest link. This is a troubling development for New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his team, who are running the prosecution of the former president.
Despite being cornered by Blanche during the cross-examination, Cohen still found himself in hot water and was forced to adjust his testimony. This raises questions about the credibility of his previous statements and the reliability of his memory.
It cannot be ignored that the outcome of this trial could have serious consequences for Trump. A New York judge and jury may not be sympathetic to the former president, but all it would take is one juror with a conscience and commitment to the legal principle of “beyond a reasonable doubt” to result in a hung jury. And even if Bragg decides to try the case again, it is unlikely that a new trial could be completed before November’s election.
The fact that Cooper, who is known for his disdain towards Trump, is reporting on this cross-examination in such a lopsided manner speaks volumes. If even a staunch critic of Trump is acknowledging the effectiveness of Blanche’s cross-examination, it is clear that the prosecution has a tough fight ahead of them.
Of course, this is not to say that Trump is in the clear just yet. The trial is far from over, and there is still the possibility of a guilty verdict. However, the current state of affairs does not look promising for the prosecution.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the trial plays out and if Cohen’s testimony can survive the intense scrutiny of Trump’s legal team. But for now, it appears that the prosecution may have underestimated the strength of the defense in this case.
It is important to note that the New York hush money trial is not just about Trump. It also involves the credibility of Cohen and the reliability of his testimony. As a key witness for the prosecution, his performance on the stand is crucial to the outcome of the trial.
It remains to be seen if the prosecution can overcome the damage done to their case by Blanche’s cross-examination. One thing is for sure though, with Cooper’s observation and the growing doubts about Cohen’s testimony, the trial is far from being a straightforward affair.
