AOC Tip-Toeing Close to a Legal Line on Her House Financial Report

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is tip-toeing right up to the legal line with the congressional financial disclosure rules. And she admits to doing it openly.
Ocasio-Cortez’s communications director, Lauren Hitt, nonchalantly said that AOC is taking her time filing her disclosure forms which are required by federal law because she still has another 20 days before she runs the risk of being fined.
“The committee provides a 30-day grace period before fines are levied. The congresswoman plans to file before the period expires,” Hitt told the Washington Examiner. These two are certainly millennials!
Almost all the members of the House have already reported their 2021 financial disclosures required by federal law, but the AOC is dawdling. This “woke” politician still has not made her report available to the public. It was due to the House Ethics Committee 11 days ago.
Maybe she believes her “squad” status gives her a position above the rules for the rest of the players.
And maybe, she just doesn’t even care because the penalty for not filing after the grace period is only $200.
This is not the first time that she has tried to avoid filing her financial reports. In 2020, AOC did not make the deadline to file her 2019 finances by 30 days.
“Not only is she an admitted scofflaw, she’s a repeat offender… one must wonder whether she also files her income tax returns past the deadlines,” attorney for the National Legal and Policy Center Paul Kamenar told the Washington Examiner.
“Just like AOC did in 2020 when she filed her 2019 disclosure report 30 days late after the 90-day extension, she’s at it again, blowing off the deadline for filing her 2021 filing that was due on Aug. 13,” Kamenar continued to say.
Kamenar could not help but speculate on the rationale AOC is using. He questioned whether she was delaying her filing because of ethical concerns regarding her appearance at the 2021 Met Gala. It was there that she wore a dress that read “Tax the Rich” in red ink on the back.
Somebody should get this girl an energy drink and some Fritos so that she can pull an all-nighter and get her work done.
