Ben Shapiro Nails Biden Administration’s Hypocrisy Over Free Speech – Watch

In a recent article, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro argued that the left’s reaction to the Biden administration’s social media case shows their true position on free speech.

The case, which was brought by a group of Republican-led states, alleges that the Biden administration has been using its power to pressure social media companies to censor conservative voices.

Shapiro argued that the left’s reaction to the case has been one of “outrage and hypocrisy.” He pointed out that many on the left have long accused social media companies of censoring conservative voices, but they are now defending those companies when they are being accused of doing the same thing by the government.

“The left’s position on free speech is clear,” Shapiro wrote. “They only support free speech for those with whom they agree.”

“But this sort of stuff doesn’t bother the Left whatsoever,” Shapiro said, summarizing the Left’s stance on free speech. “Again, because the principles of freedom of speech are mere platforms. They’re not actual principles that are worthy of being upheld. So the question on whether you believe in a principle is whether when your opponents exercise it you believe that the principle should no longer apply.”

He added that many on the Left only supported free speech if it allowed them to gain power.

“I’ve never called, for example, for the deplatforming of people who explicitly attack me on social media, because that’s their prerogative. This is the United States. The Left [recognizes] no such prerogative. The Left doesn’t believe that,” The Daily Wire co-founder said. “The Left believes that free speech is merely a tool of power. So when they control it, free speech is good and when they don’t control it, free speech is very, very bad.”

Shapiro also argued that the left’s reaction to the case is a sign of their growing intolerance of dissent. He said that the left is increasingly trying to silence those who disagree with them and that the Biden administration’s social media case is just one example of this.

“The left is no longer content to simply disagree with people,” Shapiro wrote. “They now want to silence them.”
