Biden Looking To Impose Tougher Travel Restrictions On Red States Than On Our Southern Border
Biden is considering domestic travel restrictions and has specifically mention the State of Florida, claiming that coronavirus mutations are threatening to reverse progress on the pandemic.
Citing concerns of new mutations discovered in the UK, South Africa, and Brazil “experts” are worried they can buck existing vaccines. The administration is conducting a review of potential travel restrictions within the United States.
Officials claim that the restrictions would not target a specific state but “focus on how to prevent the spread of variants that appear to be surging in a number of state, including Florida.”
“There are active conversations about what could help mitigate spread here, but we have to follow the data and what’s going to work. We did this with South Africa, we did this with Brazil, because we got clear guidance,” one White House official said.
“But we’re having conversations about anything that would help mitigate spread,” the official said, referring to discussions about new travel restrictions that could target the spread of the U.K. mutation in Florida.
These restrictions would be tougher than the restrictions Biden is imposing on those who illegally enter the country. The New York Times reported that illegal immigrants entering Texas are not being screened for COVID-19 and are being released into the community not returned to their country of origin.
From the NYT’s:
Health authorities in San Diego have ruled that those crossing into California must remain at the hotel for 10 days before being allowed to go onward. There is no similar quarantine requirement in Texas for migrants who arrive with no coronavirus symptoms, according to volunteers working with the migrants; there, they said, those released by Border Patrol are being allowed to board buses and travel to other destinations.
The bigger problem is that Biden’s considerations are unconstitutional. The Privileges and Immunities Clause provides Americans the right of interstate travel and prevents the government from treating citizens of other states in a discriminatory manner.
What’s even more comical is that the Biden administration is contemplating restrictions as cases of the Wuhan virus plummet across the country, Florida has a positivity rate (as of the writing of this post) of 6.59%. In comparison Democrat run Pennsylvania has a positivity rate of 8.6%, New York has a positivity rate of 7.0%, and California has a positivity rate of 8.3%.
In a piece written by the Miami Herald they reported, “the U.K. variant has spread rapidly in the state during that time. It now accounts for up to 15% of new cases in Florida.”
However, another story published by the Miami Herald on the same day they reported about Biden’s possible restrictions tells a different story. They reported that coronavirus cases are going down and positivity is dropping in all counties except Palm Beach.
Biden hasn’t been in office a month yet, any progress this nation has made is thanks to former President Trump. All the Biden team is doing is trying to put policies together so when this is all over (and it will end) they can claim credit that they “beat the virus.”
