Biden Makes Stop But Something Was Missing
Joe Biden continued his presidential campaign by visiting South Carolina, where he made a divisive and false speech at a black church.
On Monday, Biden arrived at the Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, and began his address by lying to the crowd about his involvement in the civil rights movement. He said, “I’ve spent more time in the Bethel AME Church in Wilmington, Delaware, than most people I know, black or white, have spent in that church because that’s where I started a civil rights movement.” However, there is no record of Biden ever starting a civil rights movement at this church. His false claims, along with his angry and divisive rhetoric, have drawn criticism from many.
After delivering his speech, Biden visited a soul food restaurant to continue pandering to the black community. The identity of the restaurant was Hannibal’s Soul Kitchen, located in Charleston. When Biden walked into the restaurant, there was no crowd waiting for him. In fact, most of the people around him appeared to be media reporters. This is in stark contrast to former President Trump, who would often be greeted by large crowds of supporters whenever he entered a restaurant.

This lack of fanfare for Biden is especially notable considering he received a record-breaking 81 million votes in the 2020 presidential election. Despite being the “most popular president in US history,” as many have claimed, it seems that Biden’s supporters were not eager to see him in person. In contrast, Trump was often greeted by enthusiastic crowds eager to catch a glimpse of him as he walked into restaurants. This speaks to the difference in popularity between the two leaders.
Biden’s visit to South Carolina marks an important moment in his campaign as it is a crucial state for the upcoming presidential primaries. As a Democratic stronghold, it will be key for Biden to secure the support of the black community in order to secure the nomination. Many have criticized Biden’s tactics, saying that he is using his former position as vice president to former President Obama to pander to voters.
Biden’s actions have led to accusations that he is taking the black vote for granted. By making false claims about his involvement in the civil rights movement, and visiting a soul food restaurant to continue pandering, it seems that Biden is trying to appeal to the black community without actually addressing the issues that are important to them. This has drawn criticism from both sides of the political spectrum, with some seeing it as pandering and others seeing it as insincere.
The visit to South Carolina also highlights the larger issue of race relations in America. While Biden claimed to have started a civil rights movement at a black church, these actions do very little to address the systemic issues that the black community faces on a daily basis. Many believe that real change will come from addressing these issues head-on, rather than pandering for votes. It remains to be seen if Biden’s tactics will pay off in South Carolina and throughout the rest of his campaign.
In addition to criticisms about his pandering and dishonest claims, Biden’s visit to South Carolina also raises questions about his competence as a leader. Some have pointed out that he was able to enter a restaurant without anyone clamoring to catch a glimpse of him, which is not something that often happened with Trump. This could be seen as a lack of charisma or leadership as it appears that even his own supporters are not eager to see him in person.
