Bill Maher Reveals How Trump’s Tough Stance Lowered Violent Crime
Across the nation, violent crime declined by almost 10 percentage points. This drop happened from June 2025 through May 2026. The FBI’s Crime Data Explorer tracked the decline. It follows a steady drop that started in 2022. Bill Maher said President Trump’s tough style helped cause this big change. The host made these comments on Friday night. He spoke on his show, Real Time with Bill Maher. Data shows violent crime hit 1969 levels. That is the lowest level in decades.
Maher called the drop a “Great Crime Decline.” He showed an Atlantic magazine headline about the trend. The data covers all types of crime, not just drugs. Maher noted that good news stories often get buried. He said this happens “because they’re tainted by cooperation.” The host argued that good news gets ignored when parties work together.
Maher split the credit for the drop between both parties. He said Democrats fast-tracked Narcan for overdose emergencies. “We found something better, Narcan, and Democrats fast-tracked it, that’s contributed a lot to the huge decrease in drug deaths,” he said. But he gave the other half of the credit to Republicans. He pointed to border security and supply disruption. “But so did closing the border. And deporting gang bangers. And disrupting supply. Narcan worked, and law enforcement worked,” Maher stated.
He also mentioned the role of technology. In America, moving even two inches guarantees you are tracked. “It’s because you can’t move two inches in America without being tracked, photographed, and followed by a Flock camera,” he explained. The host called this a mix of policy and enforcement. He said it was “childish to pretend” that the tough approach had no effect. Maher called Trump a “bad*” in his comments.
Per the New York Post, Maher described Trump as a “f–k around and find out president.” He joked that the president has “UFC fights on the [White House] lawn.” This image, he argued, sends a clear message to criminals. The audience laughed at the long description of the president’s style.
He admitted he does not agree with every method used. He noted some deportations lack connection to the countries involved. “Is doing it this way the right thing? No,” he said. Yet he insisted the results speak for themselves. RedState noted that Maher is one of the few liberals who looks at the facts. Senator John Fetterman is another one, the outlet reported. Maher believes the safety net helps, but the tough stance works too.
Crime is down across the board. It is not just drug crime that is way down. It is all crime. The drop is historic and measurable. Maher believes the “FAFO president” got the message across. The combination of social safety nets and strict enforcement worked. “Part of it is reasons beyond politics… but mostly it’s because Democrats did some things, and Republicans did other things,” he said. The result is a safer nation for families.
