CBS’s Margaret Brennan Goes for Juggler of GOP Rep. Tom Emmer, He Responds – Watch
CBS News moderator of “Face the Nation,” Margaret Brennan, tried to bully a Republican guest over the story of Paul Pelosi’s attack by a man with a hammer. She started talking over her guest blaming the GOP rhetoric as a catalyst for such violence.
But Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) just wasn’t having it.
The interview between Emmer and Brennan started by focusing on a video the Republican representative posted to social media showing him firing a rifle. The post had this caption: “Enjoyed exercising my Second Amendment rights with @KellyCooperAZ & General @JackBergman_MI1. 13 days to make history. Let’s #FirePelosi.”
The CBS News moderate grilled Emmer about election denial and then focused on that video.
“Why is there a gun in a political ad at all?” she asked.
Emmer had a quick and right response, “It wasn’t an ad. I was tweeting out— I was tweeting out something that I had just done,” he responded. But Brennan started talking right over him.
“Wouldn’t a pink slip be more fitting, if it’s about firing her?” she said. “Why a gun?”
Emmer soon realized that he was being set up to connect his video to GOP rhetoric leading to political violence. He took the offensive and called out the media’s hypocrisy. He questioned why the media did not blame Democrats when Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and other GOP lawmakers were nearly assassinated by a far-left Bernie Sanders supporter in 2017.
“I never heard you or anyone else in the media trying to blame Democrats for what happened,” Emmer argued.
Brennan continued bickering with Emmer, and he finally made his position clear on the video. He was simply exercising his Second Amendment rights.
Brennan doubled down and said that she believed his video incites violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
“Do you not understand that [the video] is suggestive to people who are in a bad state and, in this current environment, how risky it is? As you’re talking about the importance of lowering the rhetoric — why do you leave that up?” Brennan said.
“Well, I disagree with you,” Emmer shot back. “Again, I never saw anyone after Steve Scalise was shot by a Bernie Sanders supporter trying to equate Democrat rhetoric with those actions. Please don’t do that.”
It’s hard to argue that point.
Enjoyed exercising my Second Amendment rights with @KellyCooperAZ & General @JackBergman_MI1.
