CDC Removes Data from Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has removed certain data fields from its Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) website, which collects reports of adverse events following vaccination. The data fields that have been removed include country codes, reported symptom case narratives, diagnostic laboratory data, illness at the time of vaccination, chronic conditions, and allergies.
“Thank you for your participation. Data collection for COVID-19 vaccines concluded on June 30, 2023,” the V-safe website reads.
The CDC has said that the removal of these data fields was done at the request of European regulators, who are concerned that the data may not comply with their regulations. However, the removal of these data fields has raised concerns among some right-wing activists, who believe that the CDC is trying to hide information about the safety of the COVID vaccines.
Dr. David Gortler, a Brownstone Institute Fellow who formerly served as a senior official and advisor for the FDA, first reported the change in the CDC’s website, questioning why the federal agency removed the data.
“Does this mean that the CDC believes that the mRNA Covid-19 injections are so safe, there is no need to monitor adverse event reports any longer?” he wrote. “What is the argument against continued monitoring, especially since the V-safe website was already up and paid for?”
Gortler cited the FDA’s VAERS database that allegedly names the vaccines as the number one cause of more than 1.5 million adverse event reports, including heart attacks and cases of myocarditis and pericarditis in the U.S.
Gortler also cited an FDA-funded study out of Harvard that states VAERS reports represent less than 1 percent of vaccine adverse events that actually occur.
Gortler shared an image from the V-safe Covid Vaccine Adverse Health Impacts dashboard that stated over 6.4 million individuals were impacted out of 10.1 million users, including roughly 2 million who were “unable to conduct normal activities of daily living or needing medical care,” Gortler wrote.
“Will the CDC opine on the existing data or justify its halting of collecting new safety data?” he wrote. “To the best of my knowledge, stopping the collection of public health information doesn’t have a clinical justification or scientific precedence — especially when it comes to an actively marketed product.”
“In George Orwell’s 1984, characters were told by The Party to ‘reject the evidence of your eyes and ears.’” Gortler added. “Now, the CDC isn’t even allowing that evidence to be collected for viewing (and prospective rejecting). It’s a terrible idea for any product, let alone novel mRNA technologies.”
