Christie Takes Trump’s Debate Skipping to the Next Level
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican presidential candidate, has vowed to follow former President Donald Trump around the country if he continues to skip debates.
“If Donald Trump doesn’t want to debate me, I’m going to follow him around the country and debate him wherever he goes,” Christie made the remarks during a Sunday interview with Howard Kurtz on Fox News’s “Media Buzz.”
Trump has skipped the first two Republican debates, and it is unclear if he will participate in any future debates. He has said that he does not need to debate his opponents because he is so far ahead in the polls.
“But did Trump defuse your strategy of going toe-to-toe with him by staying off the debate stage and saying since he’s gotten a big lead nationally in the national polls, that he is not going to do any of the debates?” Kurtz asked.
Christie responded, “Well, if he doesn’t do any of the debates, Howie, you know, we’re gonna give him another chance. I’m sure he’s not coming to the Reagan debate. We’ll give him another chance in Alabama. But if he doesn’t come there, then I’m going to follow him around the country. Wherever he goes, I’ll go. And we’ll wind up talking to each other one way or the other. And he knows that’s true.”
“You’re going to change your travel schedule to go where Trump goes?” Kurtz asked.
“You bet,” Christie responded.
Christie’s threat to follow Trump around the country is a risky move, but it could pay off if it forces Trump to debate him. A debate between Christie and Trump would be a major event that would generate a lot of media attention.
Take a look at Christie’s warning to Trump for yourself in this emotional exchange from the former governor:
