CIA Analysts Lawyer Up As Trump Investigation Into Origins of Russian Collusion Hoax Zero’s In
It is not looking for some CIA analysts who appear to be in the crosshairs of the DOJ investigation looking into the origins of the Russian collusion hoax.
NBC News reported on Monday that the DOJ “has found something significant” and has “expanded” the review.
According to NBC News:
[Connecticut U.S. Attorney John] Durham has also requested to talk to CIA analysts involved in the intelligence assessment of Russia’s activities, prompting some of them to hire lawyers, according to three former CIA officials familiar with the matter. And there is tension between the CIA and the Justice Department over what classified documents Durham can examine, two people familiar with the matter said.
US Attorney General William Barr has assigned the conduct investigation to Durham. The DOJ did not disclose if the conduct investigation has transformed into a criminal probe. However, the fact that CIA analyst are lawyering up tells you they are in a heap of trouble.
Barr has said that the IG report did not go far enough because Horowitz “doesn’t have the power to compel testimony, he doesn’t have the power really to investigate beyond the current cast of characters at the Department of Justice. His ability to get information from former officials or from other agencies outside the department is very limited. I have a lot of questions about what was going on,” he said. “Some of the facts that I’ve learned don’t hang together with the official explanations of what happened.”
NBC News also reported:
The US attorney leading the review has now hired more staff and the timeframe for the investigation has been extended. Durham is now looking into the Obama administration conduct before President Trump was inaugurated in January of 2017.
Obama originally started the probe using the FBI to look into alleged Russian election interference. Eventually, Mueller was appointed to lead a special counsel to look into Russian collusion and concluded there was no coordination between Russia and the Trump administration.
