Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, a key witness in the ongoing trial against ex-President Donald Trump, has been making headlines for his public attacks against his former boss. Cohen, who has been labeled as a “rat” by Trump, has taken to social media to criticize and mock the ex-president, even going so far as to call him “Von ShitzInPants.”

Cohen’s latest jab at Trump came on Monday when he took to his X account to post, “Hey Von ShitzInPantz…your attacks of me stink of desperation. We are all hoping that you take the stand in your defense.” This post is just one of many in which Cohen has publicly attacked Trump, referring to him as a “despicable human being” and a “racist, misogynist, xenophobe, homophobe, Islamophobe, anti-Semite” during a recent TikTok livestream.

These attacks come as Trump faces a hearing on Tuesday to determine whether he has violated gag orders prohibiting him from attacking witnesses like Cohen. The double standard of Cohen being able to freely attack Trump while Trump is gagged, has sparked criticism and confusion. In a recent column for the Washington Examiner, Byron York called it, “a surpassingly weird situation.”

Despite being gagged, Trump has reportedly violated the order numerous times, prompting prosecutors to ask Judge Juan Merchan to hold him in contempt. The punishment for violating a gag order can range from a verbal warning to a short jail term. Trump’s alleged attacks on Cohen have been labeled as the reason for the potential contempt charge.

While Cohen has been publicly attacking Trump, Trump has been forbidden from responding. When he did make a comment about Cohen on his social media platform Truth Social, some called for him to be jailed. This has led to a peculiar situation where Cohen is free to attack Trump, yet Trump cannot defend himself.

On Monday, Cohen used his TikTok livestream to warn jurors of the risks of being involved in the trial. He also threatened that the “Trump team” would escalate their attacks on witnesses and that the media would expose them.
