Congressman Case and Stanton Issues Announcement
We’ve got breaking news as two more House Democrats have publicly called for President Joe Biden to step aside from his reelection bid. Representatives Ed Case of Hawaii and Greg Stanton of Arizona are the latest to join a growing number of Democratic lawmakers urging the president to reconsider his candidacy.
Greg Stanton expressed his concerns in a statement, saying, “For the sake of American democracy, and to continue to make progress on our shared priorities, I believe it is time for the President to step aside as our nominee.” Similarly, Ed Case stated, “I do not believe President Biden should continue his candidacy for re-election as President.”
These calls come amid increasing unease within the Democratic Party. More than a dozen lawmakers have now pushed for Biden to step aside, and more are expected to follow. A closed-door meeting on Thursday with the president’s aides failed to alleviate the concerns of skeptical senators.
As reported by POLITICO, at least six more lawmakers are prepared to publicly break with Biden if his highly anticipated solo press conference on Thursday night doesn’t go well.
Two other Democrats have also raised significant concerns without directly calling for Biden to step aside. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington expressed doubts about the president’s judgment regarding his health and ability to govern.
She stated, “Americans deserve to feel their president is fit enough to do the job. The crisis of confidence in the President’s leadership needs to come to an end. The President should do what he knows is right for the country and put the national interest first.”
Rep. Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts echoed these sentiments during an interview with WPRI, saying his voters “have deep and unanswered doubts” about Biden’s ability to win the election and serve another four years.
As the pressure mounts, all eyes are on Biden’s upcoming press conference. His performance could be a pivotal moment, potentially swaying undecided lawmakers and shaping the future of his campaign. The Democratic Party is at a crossroads, grappling with internal debates and the challenges of the upcoming election.
