Crockett Discusses Trump Agenda During ABC Interview
Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett delivered a sharp critique of President-elect Donald Trump on ABC News’ This Week on Sunday, stating that Trump should not expect any “peace” during his presidency and must work tirelessly to address the nation’s pressing issues.
Her comments came amid a panel discussion debating Trump’s cabinet picks and the expectations for his upcoming term.
Crockett dismissed the idea of giving Trump a “month of peace,” as suggested by panelist and former RNC Chair Reince Priebus. “I don’t know about giving him any peace, child,” Crockett quipped.
She stressed that the responsibilities of the presidency demand constant effort, especially during challenging times. “We are definitely at a precipice in this country, and people were hurting and they believe in him. So no, there should not be any peace over the next four years.”
Crockett’s remarks underscored the high expectations for Trump to deliver on his campaign promises, particularly those addressing economic concerns and national security. “He needs to be working and fighting to deliver for the American people to make sure that these prices come down, but also to make sure that we’re safe,” she emphasized.
Citing global conflicts, Crockett pointed to Trump’s pledge to end foreign wars, a promise she questioned in terms of feasibility. “I don’t know what magic wand he has hanging out in his back pocket that’s going to allow him to do that.”
The congresswoman also took aim at the competence of Trump’s cabinet selections, suggesting that they may fall short of meeting the nation’s needs. “There are a lot of questions to be had about this,” she said, though she acknowledged the will of the voters in electing Trump.
Crockett’s critique came against the backdrop of ongoing debates about presidential accountability and work ethic. She highlighted concerns over past administrations, particularly President Joe Biden’s time spent away from the White House. Republicans have frequently criticized Biden’s vacation habits, pointing out that by August 2023, he had spent 40.3% of his presidency on vacation, according to data from the Republican National Committee Research and Roll Call.
By comparison, Biden’s time away dwarfs that of the average American worker, who would need nearly 48 years to accrue a similar amount of time off.
