Dem Gets Canned After Horrible Comments Amid Christian School Shooting
Governor Katie Hobbs’s press secretary, Josselyn Berry, has resigned in light of a controversial tweet that she posted, which appeared to encourage gun violence just hours after a mass shooting at an elementary school in Tennessee.
The tweet featured a screencap of the 1980s film “Gloria” with a woman holding two guns with the caption reading; “Us when we see transphobes.” The tweet, which was quickly removed by Twitter for violating their rules, was widely denounced by critics, primarily those from the conservative branches of the Arizona legislature. The Arizona Freedom Caucus, a right–leaning group, called on the Governor to fire Berry.
The Governor’s office subsequently released a public statement saying that the post by the Press Secretary did not reflect the values of the administration and that the Governor had received and accepted Berry’s resignation.
“The Governor does not condone violence in any form. This administration holds mutual respect at the forefront of how we engage with one another. The post by the Press Secretary is not reflective of the values of the administration. The Governor has received and accepted the resignation of the Press Secretary.” — Statement from Arizona Governor’s Office, dated 3/29/23
Governor Hobbs also stated that she does not condone violence in any form and that mutual respect is at the forefront of how the administration engages with one another.
The tweet, which was originally posted on Monday night, quickly spread on social media feeds, popular blogs, and other conservative outlets, including the New York Post and the Daily Mail. This prompted the swift resignation of Berry from her post as the Governor’s press secretary.
The Governor’s office has not yet commented on who will be replacing Berry, but it is expected that an announcement will be made in the near future. In the meantime, the Governor has expressed her condolences to the families affected by the mass shooting in Tennessee and has condemned the tweet posted by Berry as inappropriate.
