Dems Are Wargaming Possible Succession And Chaos For The November Election
Two reports have emerged that Democrats are wargaming how to delegitimize the November election and could cause a civil war as they plan for a contested election. The wargaming was buried in a report by Ben Smith in the New York Times and was also reported in the Boston Globe.
Smith was mainline covering to how the media was going to cover election night given that the result of the election may not be known for weeks.
However, toward the bottom of the report, Smith mentions an article from the Boston Globe that explained Democrats have participated in a “war game” to considered possible outcomes and strategies during the national election.
Participants included John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign manager, never-Trump Bill Kristol, other political, and former military leaders.
Both reports (from the Times and the Boston Globe) focused on one scenario (there were three others) in which President Trump won by electoral votes and Biden won the popular vote:
But conveniently, a group of former top government officials called the Transition Integrity Project actually gamed four possible scenarios, including one that doesn’t look that different from 2016: a big popular win for Mr. Biden, and a narrow electoral defeat, presumably reached after weeks of counting the votes in Pennsylvania. For their war game, they cast John Podesta, who was Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, in the role of Mr. Biden. They expected him, when the votes came in, to concede, just as Mrs. Clinton had.
But Mr. Podesta, playing Mr. Biden, shocked the organizers by saying he felt his party wouldn’t let him concede. Alleging voter suppression, he persuaded the governors of Wisconsin and Michigan to send pro-Biden electors to the Electoral College.
In that scenario, California, Oregon, and Washington then threatened to secede from the United States if Mr. Trump took office as planned. The House named Mr. Biden president; the Senate and White House stuck with Mr. Trump. At that point in the scenario, the nation stopped looking to the media for cues, and waited to see what the military would do.
The Boston Globe reported Democrats have been wargaming since December according to Rosa Brooks, a Georgetown law professor, and former Defense Department official:
“Brooks got the seed of the idea for the Transition Integrity Project after a dinner where a federal judge and a corporate lawyer each told her they were convinced the military or the Secret Service would have to escort Trump out of office if he lost the election and would not concede. Brooks wasn’t so sure. She and Gilman decided to turn the Washington parlor game into an actual exercise; they held an early meeting in Washington, with about 25 people, in December.”
What thing the Democrats did discover was that as Democrats challenged the election President Trump came out as the candidate of stability:
“The more demonstrations there were, the more demands for recounts, the more legal challenges there were, the more funerals for democracy were held, the more Trump came across as the candidate of stability,” said Edward Luce, the US editor of the Financial Times, who played the role of a mainstream media reporter during one of the simulations. “Possession is nine-tenths of the law.”
You can always count on liberals to spill the beans about what they are planning because they can’t help themselves. I’m completely speculating but this looks like the Democrats are wargaming to try and find a way to overthrow President Trump should he win in November (that is complete speculation on my end).
