DHS Secretary Mayorkas Said What? Come On…
Alejandro Mayorkas, the troubled Homeland Security Secretary, has once again created some fervor among Republican political leaders. They have a growing list of reasons why they want this man to resign from his position with Homeland Security.
This time Mayorkas attempted to shift the blame for the border insanity to the GOP, even though they do not have any authority to control his job or the government at this point.
The reason that so many want the man impeached is that the secretary has failed to enforce immigration laws. This has caused a record surge in migrants, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.
GOP Senators Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham wrote a letter to Mayorkas just this month. They said that his failure to faithfully enforce the nation’s immigration laws and his willful blindness to the “very real humanitarian crisis at our southern border amounts to a gross dereliction of duty and a violation of your oath of office.”
The Republican senators went further saying that instead of taking the necessary steps to address this crisis at the southern border, Mayorkas has allowed the situation there to grow worse. He has pursued policies that have greatly exacerbated the problem while continuing to insist that ‘the border is secure.’ This is a gross dereliction of duty and, if not corrected swiftly, could provide grounds for impeachment.”
Mayorkas spoke with the Dallas Morning News editorial board and he claimed that it was Republican rhetoric that was enticing migrants to come to America. He alleged that when the GOP give the “political cry that the border is open,” it is actually “music to the smugglers’ ears because they take that political rhetoric and they market it.” This is what drives more migrants to make the dangerous trip north.
What?
These remarks not only raised eyebrows but angst as well. When Mayorkas was asked to respond to the calls for his impeachment, he simply said, “I’ve got a lot of work to do, and I intend to continue to do it. That’s my response.”
