Disney Announcement Proves President Trump’s Point About COVID-19 During The Debate
During the debate, President Trump mentioned that Democrat Governors are killing the economy and their states because of their bogus coronavirus restrictions. States like Florida, Texas, Georgia, and Arizona have all weathered the storm and are moving on. Other states like California, New York, and Massachusetts are staying locked down.
As you know the Walt Disney Company has resorts in Florida and California. To date, there have been no known outbreaks resulting from visits to the theme parks (including Universal) that have reopened in Florida. Disney has been able to reopen its parks in Paris, Shanghai, Japan, Hong Kong, and Florida.
The Walt Disney Company recently announced that they are going to lay off 28,000 California-based employees because they have been unable to reopen the park due to California’s coronavirus restrictions.
Josh D’Amaro, who heads Disney Parks, sent a letter to employees informing them of the “difficult decision” they had to make because of the fallout from the coronavirus restrictions.
“As you can imagine, a decision of this magnitude is not easy,” D’Amaro wrote in the letter obtained by CNBC. “For the last several months, our management team has worked tirelessly to avoid having to separate anyone from the company. We’ve cut expenses, suspended capital projects, furloughed our cast members while still paying benefits, and modified our operations to run as efficiently as possible, however, we simply cannot responsibly stay fully staffed while operating at such limited capacity.”
California has experienced lockdown restrictions for almost 8 months I don’t think any company could continue to pay benefits while being forced closed.
D’Amaro stated that 67% of the 28,000 employees were part-time.
Blame for the 28,000 people that have been laid off can be placed directly at the feet of Governor Gavin Newsom. Disney has not had any problems reopening its parks around the world there is no reason Disneyland can not be reopened.
California better watch it, Elon Musk is leaving, a massive amount of business are fleeing California for Arizona and Nevada. Disney is a big enough company they’ll pack up and move to Texas too.
