FBI Reports Access To Phone Of Alleged Trump Shooter
The FBI announced that it had successfully accessed the phone of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. This development comes as the investigation into the shooting continues to unfold.
On Monday afternoon, the FBI released an update stating, “FBI technical specialists successfully gained access to Thomas Matthew Crooks’ phone, and they continue to analyze his electronic devices. The search of the subject’s residence and vehicle are complete.”
Crooks opened fire during Trump’s speech, injuring the former president and two attendees. Tragically, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore was killed in the attack.
The Daily Wire reported that law enforcement conducted a search of Crooks’ home late Saturday night, just hours after the incident. The FBI has also conducted interviews with nearly 100 law enforcement personnel, event attendees, and other witnesses.
Additionally, they have received hundreds of digital media tips, including photos and videos from the scene, which are currently under review. FBI victim services personnel have been offering assistance to those affected by Saturday’s incident.
Despite these efforts, some Republicans have expressed skepticism about the FBI leading the investigation. Representative Lance Gooden (R-TX) voiced concerns, stating, “My constituents are deeply concerned with the FBI conducting the sole investigation into the attempted assassination of President Trump.
They don’t have faith in the current FBI leadership to get to the truth given how they have targeted President Trump with political witch hunt after witch hunt at the behest of Joe Biden.”
The FBI has faced criticism over its handling of other high-profile investigations, such as the Covenant School shooting in Nashville. Critics have pointed to the FBI’s decision to suppress the writings of the shooter, a transgender-identifying woman who killed six people, including three children, at the Christian school last year.
Furthermore, some Republican lawmakers have called for an investigation into the Secret Service’s handling of security at the rally. They question how the shooter managed to access a roof close to where Trump was speaking. These lawmakers have demanded that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas provide documents detailing the security measures taken before the rally.
As the investigation continues, the FBI’s access to Crooks’ phone and other electronic devices may shed light on his motives and any potential accomplices.
