Feds Open Excessive Force Investigation Over Capitol Shooting
Catherine Herridge reporter for CBS News is reporting that US Attorney Michael Sherwin confirmed to her a “formal” investigation has started reviewing the officer’s actions that killed a woman during the protest where people stormed the capital.
We are not going to post the video when a federal law enforcement officer fatally shot, Ashli Babbitt, who was unarmed, inside the capitol building Wednesday. However, a long portion of the video has been released and it showed Babbitt was not only unarmed but there was a police tactical team standing behind her. There doesn’t appear to be any communication between the officer who fired the shot and the tactical team and the officer didn’t even seem to realize the team was there. If that officer missed he could have shot one of the other officers who was standing right behind her on the stairs. There has been no explanation over why the officer shot Babbitt who was unarmed and several police officers were by her.

Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said officials were utterly caught off guard and didn’t in their “wildest imagination” think protestors would breach the Capitol grounds.
“People were moving hard and fast,” he said. “Of course, there’s some very challenging physics with marshaling National Guard capability and doing fragmentary orders to support other missions.”
