First Lady Jill Biden Tests Positive for COVID Again
First lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time on Monday, just days after returning to the White House from a trip to Florida.
“This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms,” said her communications director Elizabeth Alexander.
In a separate statement, the White House said President Joe Bidentested negative for COVID after his wife’s positive test.
The first lady will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, according to her representative.
They both tested positive for COVID last year and each underwent “rebound” cases in the weeks that followed.
Biden, 72, is experiencing mild symptoms and is isolating at her home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. President Biden tested negative for the virus.
The diagnosis has upended the first lady’s plans to begin teaching the fall semester at Northern Virginia Community College on Tuesday. She is working with the school to “ensure her classes are covered by a substitute,” Vanessa Valdivia, the first lady’s spokesperson, said.
The first lady’s positive test comes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage in the United States. The highly contagious Omicron subvariant BA.5 is now the dominant strain of the virus, and cases are on the rise.
An administration official told CNN Monday that there are no changes to White House Covid protocols or to the president’s schedule at this time.
Some conservatives have criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the pandemic, arguing that it has not done enough to protect the public from the virus. They have also pointed to the first lady’s positive test as evidence that the vaccines and other mitigation measures are not effective.
However, public health experts say that the vaccines and other measures are still the best way to protect against the virus. They also say that it is important to get tested regularly, even if you are vaccinated.
“I have no home to go to. Secret Service has torn my house up, in a good way, to make it secure. I have no place to go when I go to Delaware except here right now. I'm only here for one day. No I am not homeless, I just have 1 home I have a beautiful home"
