GOP Hopeful Herschel Walker Bests the Democratic Incumbent in 1st Debate
GOP hopeful Herschel Walker of Georgia did better than most people expected and even outperformed Democrat Raphael Warnock in the first major debate of his political career. Both candidates are seeking the U.S. Senate seat that Warnock currently occupies. He was elected in a runoff election two years ago.
The two men met on Friday for their first and only debate. They were asked questions about a wide range of issues including abortion, packing the Supreme Court, high gas prices, and rising violent crime.
Walker was able to land several massive blows on the incumbent and clips of the former NFL hero have gone viral.
Maybe the most memorable moment of the debate came when he went after Warnock, a Christian pastor for his support of abortion without limitations.
“Sen. Warnock told me that black lives matter,” Walker said. “And if you think about it, Senator, in Atlanta, Georgia, there’s more black babies that is aborted than anything. So, if black lives matter, why are you not protecting those babies? And instead of aborting those babies, why are you not baptizing those babies?”
Sen. Raphael Warnock responded, “I think the women of Georgia have a clear choice.”
Walker has not kept his Christian faith silent in the campaign. In his opening remarks, he reaffirmed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and the GOP candidate referenced his Christian values several times as a basis for his worldview.
When Walker was asked about paying for an abortion that a woman carrying his baby had, he denied the accusation.
Walker maintained that Warnock voted to support President Biden’s agenda 96% of the time. He also connected Warnock to the president’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. And Walker did not deny his friendship with former President Donald Trump.
“President Trump is my friend,” Walker said. “I won’t leave my allies, which is what Senator Warnock and Joe Biden did in Afghanistan. They left their allies.”
