GOP Sen. Josh Hawley Has Had Enough with DHS Secretary Mayorkas – Watch
Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri made his case in a letter that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should immediately resign because of the crisis taking place at America’s southern border.
Hawley focused on U.S. Customs and Border Protection information that indicates that there have been more than 2 million southwest land border encounters in the period between October 2021 through August 2022.
“And these are only the official statistics, which fail to capture the many got-aways who evaded detection. After two years on the job, you have demonstrated that you have no intention of enforcing our immigration laws,” Hawley wrote in the letter.
“Your intentional disregard for our country’s immigration laws makes you unfit to remain in office. You should resign,” he declared.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin added fuel to the fire by noting that the “numbers do NOT include known gotaways, which DHS sources tell us are already well over 500,000 for FY’22 so far.”
Senator Hawley did not just send a letter, he told the DHS secretary the same thing to his face earlier this year.
And in February, more than a dozen Republican state attorneys general came together and wrote a letter calling for the resignation of Mayorkas from his position.
Their concern comes from the fact that the federal government’s failure to secure the southern border has created a serious public safety threat. There is a risk that criminals will gain entry into the U.S. and commit heinous acts.
There was an individual apprehended earlier this month who had been convicted, in December 2021 in California, of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age,” according to a CBP press release. This criminal had been “deported in June 2022.”
Something has to be done, and the buck stops with Mayorkas.
