GOP Senator Collins Is Trying To Play Games With The Upcoming Senate Impeachment Trial
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) is playing games with McConnell and wants to change the rules of the Senate impeachment trial. She is reportedly trying to get a small group of Republican senators to join her in having witnesses testify.
The rhino Republican Senator said that she wants witnesses to testify in the Senate Impeachment trial and is trying to get a “fairly small group” of GOP senators to join her to get momentum.
“I am hopeful that we can reach an agreement on how to proceed with the trial that will allow the opportunity for both the House and the president’s counsel if they choose to do so,” Collins said, according to Bangor Daily News.
Collins and Senator Lis Murkowski (R-AK) did agree with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that the Senate should follow precedence and use the same rules the Senate used in former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial.
According to Collins, she wants the decision on witnesses to be made after opening arguments than a pre-trial agreement with Democrats.
Collins feels that the “Clinton approach” worked well.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after holding the impeachment articles hostage for almost a month, lost the battle to force the Senate to agree with Democrat terms. On Thursday, she announced that she’ll send the documents when she feels like it but, by Friday afternoon said that she would send them this week.
“I have asked Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to be prepared to bring to the Floor next week a resolution to appoint managers and transmit articles of impeachment to the Senate,” Pelosi wrote in a letter to House Democrats.
“I will be consulting with you at our Tuesday House Democratic Caucus meeting,” she added.
Keep an eye on Senator Collins as she is trying to play both sides of the fence. Now, that Pelosi has failed to get McConnell to cave the media and Democrats are going to use her, Murkowski, and Romeny to get the witnesses democrats want to testify. I’m not going to hold my breath to see if the senator from Maine would also approve of former Vice President Biden and Hunter Biden testifying as well.
