Gov. DeSantis Is Seeing Red While the Dems Talk Nonsense About the IRS Until They Are Blue in the Face
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is flipping his lid over the supersizing of the Internal Revenue Service. Since Joe Biden has signed the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act, $80 billion will go to the IRS for “taxation enforcement.”
Some believe that Democrats can talk with their blue faces about how the $80 billion is to target billionaires and have them pay their fair share. But the truth is that anyone is fair game now for an audit because the IRS is getting billions to expand and hiring a massive amount of new agents.
Governor DeSantis said that this move is a “middle finger” to the American people.
“Of all the things that have come out of Washington that have been outrageous, this has got to be pretty close to the top,” DeSantis said. “I think it was basically just the middle finger to the American public, that this is what they think of you.”
He continued, saying this funding means they are “going after you.”
“They are going to go after independent contractors, they’re going to go after small business people, they’re going to go after someone that may be driving an Uber or a handyman or all these things … Why would they do that? Because you’re not going to be able to contend with the audit, so they’re going to crush a lot of people by doing that.”
Chuck Rettig is the IRS Commissioner, he said that the new funding would “close the tax gap” and improve taxpayer service and technology.
“The IRS has struggled for many years with insufficient resources to fulfill our important mission … During the next 10 years, these funds will help us in many areas, including adding critical resources to not just close the tax gap but meaningfully improve taxpayer service and technology.”
But DeSantis noted: “They’re not putting very much money down at the border, I can tell you that right now … but they want to be able to do it and unleash them on American taxpayers. That’s wrong.”
We agree, governor, we agree.
