Gov. Newsome Is Beginning to Sound More Like DeSantis
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) just broke with his party’s line and lashed out at President Biden’s border chaos problem. He just warned that the state of California could “break” amid the president’s decision to reverse Title 42, which gives police and border officers the ability to expedite the expulsion of illegal immigrants.
Title 42 was initiated by former President Trump, but the White House administration is planning to reverse it. This will create a huge influx of illegal migrants entering the United States through the southern border.
“The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership,” Newsom said on the heels of the policy being lifted next week.
He tried to soften his criticism by stating that he didn’t mean to “point fingers,” but he complained about Biden sending “planes and buses to California full of migrants because of all the good work … the state is doing for the immigrant community.”
Gov. Newsom said that the U.S. government is sending hundreds of illegal immigrants to the state because California is “taking care of folks,” he noted, “the more we do, the burden is placed disproportionately on us.”
The homeless issue has increased by 22,000 people since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. They have spent approximately $14 billion to address the issue and it is getting worse, not better.
“We’re already at capacity at nine of our sites,” Newsom told ABC News. “We can’t continue to fund all of these sites because of the budgetary pressures now being placed on this state and the offsetting issues that I have to address.… The reality is, unless we’re doing what we’re doing, people will end up on the streets.”
Reality seems to have finally hit Gov. Newsom, and he is sounding more like Gov. Abbott and Gov. DeSantis.
