Hillary Clinton Gives Interview On Podcast
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently spoke on a podcast where she implied that if former President Donald Trump were to win the 2024 presidential election, he would resort to extreme measures against his opponents and journalists.
Clinton made these remarks during an interview on the podcast Defending Democracy with host Marc Elias. During the conversation, Clinton touched on various topics, including Trump’s behavior and remarks, the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, the Supreme Court, President Joe Biden, and the upcoming 2024 election.
One of the key points that Clinton highlighted was Trump’s admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin. She claimed that Trump was enamored with Putin because he does what Trump himself would like to do – kill his opposition, imprison critics, and rule without any checks or balances. She also mentioned that this was not the first time that Trump has shown this type of behavior, citing his past interactions with other authoritarian leaders such as Xi Jinping of China and Kim Jong-un of North Korea.
The former Secretary of State also expressed concern about Trump’s potential win in the 2024 election. She urged people to be vigilant and keep a close eye on how they see the world. She claimed that Trump only admires strongmen leaders and does not understand or value democratic principles. She further added that the world had been down this road before and that it was something that should not be repeated.
Clinton’s comments come at a time when there is a growing concern about Trump’s actions and rhetoric, both during his presidency and in the aftermath of the 2020 election. Recently, Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson introduced the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated towards Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable (DISGRACED) Former Protectees Act, which would remove Trump’s Secret Service protection if he is convicted in his upcoming trial. Thompson’s move has been seen as a direct response to Trump’s behavior in the wake of losing the 2020 presidential election to Biden.
While addressing the issue of allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Clinton stated that we need to be cautious of how Trump views the world. She reiterated her belief that Trump was modeling himself after strongmen leaders like Putin, Xi, and Kim Jong-un.
This belief stems from a long-standing allegation that Trump and his campaign colluded with Russia to win the 2016 presidential election. However, a report released by Special Counsel John Durham in May of 2023 found that the Department of Justice and the FBI should never have opened an investigation into the Trump campaign.
The Durham report found that the FBI had received “highly significant intelligence” from a trusted foreign source that showed that Clinton’s campaign had created a plan to discredit Trump by linking him to Putin. This finding raised questions about the validity of the claims of collusion and the motives behind the investigation into the Trump campaign. It also brought into question whether Clinton’s remarks about Trump’s admiration for Putin were based on facts or merely her personal beliefs.
In the same interview, Clinton warned about the potential interference of Putin in the 2024 election. She said that Putin would likely try to interfere in the election to aid Trump’s chances of winning. Her words come at a time when the US is still dealing with the fallout of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. However, it should be noted that there has been no concrete evidence to support these allegations, and the Russian government has denied any involvement.
Finally, Clinton also touched on the ongoing trial of Trump for his role in the January 6th Capitol riots. She stated that the events of that day were a direct result of Trump’s rhetoric and behavior, and she hopes that justice will prevail in his trial. Clinton’s comments highlight the ongoing partisan divide in the country, where many Democrats hold Trump personally responsible for the violence at the Capitol.
