House Committee Releases Video Of Former Speaker
A newly released video from January 6, 2021, reveals then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressing her frustration and taking “responsibility” for the lack of preparedness by law enforcement when a mob stormed the U.S. Capitol.
The footage, shared by a House Republican panel on social media, shows Pelosi in intense conversation with her Chief of Staff, Terri McCullough, as she is evacuated from the Capitol complex.
In the video, Pelosi is heard saying, “We have responsibility, Terri. We did not have any accountability for what was going on there. And we should have.” She questions the decision-making process, asking, “Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?” Her aide responds that Capitol security believed they were prepared, to which Pelosi counters, “They clearly didn’t know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepared for more.”
Pelosi also criticizes the rioters, expressing disbelief that security underestimated the threat. “They thought these people would act civilized? They thought these people would give a damn?” she said. Pelosi reflects on the inadequate security measures, noting the simplicity of their plan: “They give us a piece of paper that says walk through the tunnel, don’t walk outside. That’s your preparation?”
In response to the video, a spokesperson for Pelosi told Fox News Digital, “Numerous independent fact-checkers have confirmed again and again that Speaker Pelosi did not plan her own assassination on January 6th.”
They emphasized that Pelosi mobilized the defense of the Capitol, urged the administration to deploy the National Guard, and coordinated government continuity. They argued that cherry-picked, out-of-context clips do not change the fact that the Speaker is not responsible for Capitol security on January 6 or any other day.
House Republicans argue that the clip contradicts Pelosi’s assertions that former President Trump was to blame for the January 6 riot. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, chair of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, accused the now-defunct House January 6 select committee of hiding evidence.
“As Nancy Pelosi was being evacuated from the Capitol on January 6, 2021, she admitted that, as Speaker of the House, she was ultimately responsible for the security failures and for not having the National Guard at the Capitol that day,” Loudermilk stated. He criticized the committee for spending nearly $20 million of taxpayer money to blame President Trump for these failures.
Loudermilk pledged that his committee would continue to investigate and expose all the facts, asserting that the American people deserve to know the truth. Fox News Digital has reached out to the January 6 committee’s former chair, Rep. Bennie Thompson, for comment.
