Hunter Biden’s Smoking Gun – Watch
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was indicted on Thursday by federal prosecutors on three counts of knowingly possessing a firearm while using controlled substances. The charges stem from an investigation into Biden’s purchase of a gun in 2018, while he was undergoing treatment for drug addiction.
Two of the counts allege that Biden lied on a federal form when he purchased the gun, stating that he did not use controlled substances. The third count alleges that he possessed the gun for about 11 days despite knowing he was a drug user.
Special counsel David Weiss filed charges against President Joe Biden’s son after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a plea deal that fell apart last month.
Two of the counts carry max sentences of 10 years in prison, while the third carries a max sentence of 5 years, according to NBC News. The stiff sentences are a sharp contrast to the agreement worked out under the failed plea deal.
Hunter, “knowing that he was an unlawful user of and addicted to any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance … did knowingly possess a firearm, that is, a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver,” the indictment says.
The charges are punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Biden has denied any wrongdoing and has said he will fight the charges.
The indictment is the latest development in a long-running investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings. The investigation was launched in 2019 by then-Attorney General William Barr, and it has been overseen by special counsel David Weiss.
The investigation has focused on Hunter Biden’s work for Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company. Biden served on the board of Burisma from 2014 to 2019, while his father was vice president of the United States.
Republicans have accused Hunter Biden of using his father’s position to enrich himself, but no evidence of wrongdoing has been found. The investigation is ongoing.
The indictment of Hunter Biden is likely to be a political liability for President Biden. Republicans have already seized on the charges to attack the president, and they are likely to continue to do so in the run-up to the 2024 election.
President Biden has said he will not interfere in the investigation into his son. He has also said that he believes Hunter Biden is innocent.
The indictment is a serious development, but it is important to note that Hunter Biden has not been convicted of any crime. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
