Kamala Takes Some Questions From The Press
It’s been just eighteen days since the political landscape was shaken up by the coup within the Democratic Party that ousted Joe Biden and handed the nomination to Kamala Harris. But instead of seizing the moment, Harris seems to be following in Biden’s footsteps by embracing what’s now being dubbed the “basement strategy”—a tactic where she’s avoiding the spotlight, dodging tough questions, and steering clear of the media.
Former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance aren’t letting her off the hook, though. They’ve been relentless in their criticism, pointing out her failure to articulate her positions on key issues or even participate in a straightforward interview. Harris has been virtually invisible, raising serious concerns about her leadership style and readiness for the challenges ahead.

But Thursday brought a rare sighting—Harris finally faced the press, albeit briefly. Reporters managed to corner her, hoping to get some answers, especially regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding her Vice Presidential pick, Tim Walz. The scandal involves accusations that Walz embellished his military record, a serious charge that’s been gaining traction and raising eyebrows across the political spectrum.
So, what did Harris have to say when asked about this brewing storm? Not much, as it turns out. When questioned about the doubts surrounding Walz’s National Guard career, Harris responded with a vague platitude: “I praise anyone who has presented themselves to serve our country and I think we all should.” That’s it. No direct address of the accusations, no defense of her running mate, just a generic statement that left reporters—and the public—wanting more.
Kamala says she might possibly maybe do an interview sometime before the end of the month (23 days from now).

This lackluster response only fuels the fire of those who are questioning whether the Harris campaign did any real vetting of Walz before putting him on the ticket. With his radical positions and the “stolen valor” scandal looming large, the choice of Walz is looking more and more questionable by the day.
Harris was also asked about her media strategy—or lack thereof. After weeks of silence, would she finally be sitting down for an interview? Harris’s answer was another head-scratcher: she’d do an interview before the “end of the month.” The date was August 8 when she said this, meaning she’s giving herself nearly a month to prepare for what should be a routine part of any political campaign.

This extended timeline is baffling. Why does she need so much time to set up a simple TV interview? The world moves fast, and in a crisis, there won’t be weeks to prepare. Trump, on the other hand, has shown time and again that he can handle the media on a moment’s notice, taking tough questions and holding his ground without hesitation.
