Kansas Pastor Brutally Calls Beef Eating A Sin In GOP Senate Race
Reality hit hard. Adam Hamilton, the Democratic nominee, told his congregation to feel bad for eating beef. He called it a sin against the earth. This is where it changes.
Now, a race that should be a lock for Republicans is tightening. In a state where cattle outnumber people two-to-one, Hamilton asked farmers to repent for their diet. The New York Post reported that the race has unexpectedly tightened in recent months. Kansas slipped from “Likely R” to “Lean R” in Fox News rankings. The Cook Political Report echoed this shift. Voters are listening, and they are not happy.
For years, Hamilton headed the biggest United Methodist church in the nation. He used his pulpit to preach on climate change. A January 2020 sermon was titled “What would Jesus say about climate change?” During that 44-minute talk, Hamilton used PowerPoint slides. He described how greenhouse gases hurt the world. He told his listeners, “That’s what repentance means — I saw things differently, it changed my heart, and it changed my behavior”
He went further. He stated, “Some of the things that we grow, because we like to eat them, like cattle, end up producing more carbon dioxide than other crops that we could grow, other forms of food that we could have”
Breitbart noted that Kansas is the nation’s third-largest producer of beef. The Kansas Livestock Association says the state has 5.8 million heads of cattle. That number exceeds the state’s human population of 2.9 million. Hamilton called on people to fix their carbon footprints by eating less beef.
Senator Roger Marshall is not taking this lightly. He told Fox News Digital that Hamilton’s views show he is just like other liberal Democrats. Marshall remarked, “In a state with more cattle than people, Hamilton saying that Kansans need to repent for eating too much beef and flip-flopping on the Farm Bill proves he’d be just like every other liberal Democrat in the Senate”
Kansas has a 94-year history of being a ruby-red bastion for the GOP in the Senate. It is a place where cattle are king. Telling farmers their livelihood is a moral failure is a dangerous move.
Hamilton asserted, “And so, in all of these ways, we are creating or adding to the amount of greenhouse gases in our world” He asked people to stop being wasteful. But in Kansas, raising cattle is not waste. It is life.
