Left Wing Hypocrisy Never Ends: Wealthy Woke Liberal New Yorkers Give The Homeless The Boot
Resident in the Upper West Side of Manhattan which is considered “one of the most liberal enclaves in New York and elsewhere in the country.” The neighborhood is mainly white, liberal, and very wealthy.
Around 300 homeless men were temporarily living in a hotel on the Upper West Side and they are now being relocated because the rich people don’t like them.
In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus the city moved homeless people into hotels spread out around the city instead of keeping them in large homeless centers.
The liberals were incredibly upset that the homeless were placed in their neighborhood and complained in a private Facebook group. Commenters that were part of the Upper West Siders for Safer Streets commented that men harassed pedestrians and would defecate on the street and complained about the sales of drugs out in the open.
Some residents organized and formed a nonprofit, the West Side Community Organization, and hired a lawyer, former deputy mayor, Randy Mastro, and threatened to sue the city.
That led to almost a liberal civil war in the community because other resident accused their neighbors of racism and hypocrisy.
Isaac McGinn, a spokesman for the city’s Department of Social Services wouldn’t say they moved the men out because of the uproar in the community.
“As part of our effort to continually review and streamline the footprint of our shelter locations, while always ensuring effective provision of services, we’re beginning to relocate individuals from several commercial hotel locations,” he said in a statement.
Mr. Mastro applauded the city’s decision.
“Families, seniors, small business owners, longtime residents and newcomers united,” Mr. Mastro said. “They were shocked and horrified to see what was happening in broad daylight in their neighborhood, and they wanted to do something about it.”
Helen Rosenthal, the council member that represents the Upper West Side said, “It’s a sad day when the mere threat of a lawsuit can get city hall to reverse a decision it made. What message does this send that groups who can afford to hire high-powered lawyers are the ones who will get their way?”
The city hall had to do something people that can afford it are leaving the city in droves. Rosenthal is right though, the elite liberals don’t care if your neighborhood is inundated with crap in the streets just as long as it doesn’t happen in their neighborhood. Not every neighborhood can afford a high brow attorney to represent them.
It’s ironic though, one of the most liberal neighborhoods in the country or as Al Sharpton called them “Latte Liberals” just threw out a bunch of homeless people.
