Liz Cheney Booed During Commencement Address at Alma Mater – Watch
Former U.S. Representative Liz Cheney delivered a commencement speech at Colorado College on Sunday, in which she excoriated her fellow Republicans for not doing enough to combat former President Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election.
Cheney, who was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for inciting the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, has become a pariah in the Republican Party. She was removed from her leadership position in the House Republican Conference and is facing a primary challenge from a Trump-backed candidate.
In her speech, Cheney warned that the Republican Party is “at a crossroads.” She said that the party can either choose to embrace Trump and his lies, or it can choose to stand up for truth and democracy.
“We cannot remain a free nation if we abandon the truth,” Cheney said. “As you go out to change the world, resolve to stand in truth.”
Conservatives who support Trump were particularly critical of Cheney’s speech. They accused her of being a traitor to the Republican Party and of trying to destroy it.
“Liz Cheney is a disgrace to the Republican Party,” said one Trump supporter. “She is nothing more than a RINO who is trying to destroy the party from the inside.”
One thing that Cheney has learned is the fickleness of the far-left. She courted them during the January 6 hearing, but it only took a few weeks after the committee released its anti-climatic report for the former Wyoming congresswoman to become forgotten.
Red State wrote this about Cheney and the Left: “Cheney joined hands with Nancy Pelosi and has made it her mission to destroy the party she once called home, and it wasn’t enough. In the eyes of those she’s tried to court, she’s a “transphobic, warmonger,” and there’s no changing that.”
