Massie Responds To JD Vance
Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky escalated his ongoing dispute with the White House on Tuesday by turning his attention to Vice President JD Vance in a pointed social media exchange.
The comment came after Vance posted a lighthearted message on X, writing, “I wonder if other VPs had as much excitement as I do.” Massie fired back, “Ask Mike Pence about his last month,” referencing the deadly events of January 6, 2021, when rioters chanted threats against then-Vice President Pence.
I wonder if other VPs had as much excitement as I do 😂

The response appeared to deepen the rift between Massie and top figures in the Republican Party, particularly as tensions have already been simmering between Massie and President Donald Trump. The current flashpoint centers on the legality of recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump confirmed the military action in a Saturday night post, prompting Massie to accuse the administration of bypassing Congress.
Massie reiterated his stance through formal channels, reintroducing a War Powers Resolution aimed at halting what he calls “unauthorized hostilities” by U.S. forces in Iran. The resolution, originally filed on June 17, urges Congress to assert its constitutional role in war declarations. Massie spent the weekend lobbying his colleagues to support the measure.

The fallout was swift. Trump attacked Massie in a Truth Social post, branding him “not MAGA” and promising to support a primary challenger. He described Massie as a “grandstander” who, in Trump’s view, underestimates the danger posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Trump’s criticism included a personal swipe, saying, “Actually, MAGA doesn’t want him, doesn’t know him, and doesn’t respect him.” He accused Massie of advocating a position that would leave the U.S. vulnerable while Iran continues hostile rhetoric against the country.
ICYMI: @RepRoKhanna and I appeared on @FaceTheNation this morning to discuss our War Powers Resolution.
Congress has the sole authority to authorize war. @SpeakerJohnson should bring our Resolution to the floor for a vote immediately. pic.twitter.com/m6FavbVKyH
