Mayorkas Really Asked for This? Come On! – Watch
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said on Tuesday that it will take more time to “show results” in the border crisis, as the Biden administration continues to struggle to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.
“We are facing a complex and challenging situation at the border,” Mayorkas said during a press briefing. “We are working tirelessly to address the challenges and to restore order and security to our border.”
Mayorkas’ comments come as the number of illegal immigrants apprehended at the border has reached a record high. In April, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) apprehended over 234,000 illegal immigrants, the highest monthly total since the agency began tracking apprehensions in 1960.
This guy has been at the helm of this crisis for just about all of Biden’s time in office. How can he still be defending the work that has or hasn’t been done, and how can he be asking for more time?
Here is the exchange between a reporter and Mayorkas:
“The president said this week that the situation on the southern border is going to be chaotic for a while,” a reporter said to Mayorkas. “Given the fact that you’ve had nearly two years to prepare for this moment, how can chaos be the expectation?”
“Well, I have said for months and months that the challenge at the border is and is going to be very difficult. And we have spoken repeatedly about the fact that that difficulty may actually only increase at this time of transition,” Mayorkas responded. “It is going to take a period of time for our approach to actually gain traction and show results. And I’ve been very clear about that.”
“The Biden administration has been a complete failure on immigration,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). “They have opened the border wide open, and they are putting our country at risk.”
