Mitt Romney Threatens Trump & Joins Dems Attempt To Handcuff Coronavirus Response
Senator Mitt Romney has threatened President Trump and is joining Democrats’ attempts to handcuff the Coronavirus Task Force response to the pandemic.
Romney released a letter with Senator Jon Tester (D-Mont) demanding President Trump comply with House Speaker Pelosi’s oversight requirements attached to the coronavirus relief package.
“With trillions of taxpayer dollars being spent, it is critically important for the Administration to ensure full transparency and willingness for independent oversight,” Romney and Tester wrote in the letter to Trump.
“As you work to implement COVID-19 legislation, we ask that you provide Congress a detailed plan on how the government plans to execute these funds and what accountability measures are being put in place to ensure our taxpayer dollars are being spent efficiently and effectively,” they wrote.
Romney and Tester also warned the President not to hinder the inspector general’s reports to Congress.
“We expect that the Special Inspector General will fulfill its statutory responsibilities, and look forward to working with your administration to ensure robust oversight of taxpayer dollars,” they wrote.
The letter was in response to the President’s comments last week as he was signing the coronavirus relief bill into law. The President hinted that the White House will supervise the quarterly reports to Congress providing “oversight” of the $2.2 trillion.
“I do not understand, and my Administration will not treat, this provision as permitting the SIGPR to issue reports to the Congress without the presidential supervision required by the Take Care Clause,” Trump said.
One would think that Senator Romney would be focused on helping the nation deal with coronavirus outbreak. Instead, he’s joining Democrats to seize any “mistakes” the Administration makes dealing with the virus. Everyone should be focused on the pandemic right now not playing political games because of your personal feelings about the president.
Romney was the only Republican Senator to vote in favor of removing President Trump from office at the conclusion of the Senate impeachment trial.
