Musk To Move SpaceX & X Out Of California
Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has made a major announcement: he’s moving the headquarters of both SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) out of California to Texas. This decision comes on the heels of California Governor Gavin Newsom signing gender identity reporting legislation into law on Monday, which Musk has strongly opposed.
Musk took to X to express his frustration, stating, “This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.” He further elaborated, “I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children.”

In another post, Musk announced that X’s headquarters, currently in San Francisco, will be relocated to Austin. He cited safety concerns, stating, “Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building.”
This move aligns with Musk’s earlier business decisions, as Texas already hosts NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston and SpaceX’s Starbase launch site and rocket factory. Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the news, stating that moving SpaceX’s headquarters “cements Texas as the leader in space exploration.”
Musk’s announcement was prompted by a post from tech investor Jason Calacanis, who questioned Governor Newsom’s policies regarding parental rights. The controversy stems from Newsom signing AB1955, which prohibits schools from requiring parental notification if a child identifies as transgender. This legislation has sparked a strong backlash, with critics arguing it undermines parental authority and could lead to families leaving California.

As reported by The Daily Wire, California is now the first state to ban school districts from informing parents about their children’s sexuality or gender identity changes unless the child consents. Musk, echoing this sentiment, posted, “A lot of families and companies will move out of California because of this law. Who would want to risk the state taking away their kids?”
This isn’t the first time Musk has moved operations out of California. In 2021, he relocated Tesla’s headquarters from Palo Alto to Austin. Earlier this year, SpaceX’s incorporation was moved to Texas from Delaware. Additionally, two other Musk-owned companies, The Boring Company and Neuralink, have offices in Texas.

In a related development, Musk declared his support for former President Donald Trump following an assassination attempt on Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Musk posted a video showing Trump with blood on his face, raising his fist in the air while surrounded by Secret Service personnel. He endorsed Trump, stating, “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”
The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk committed to supporting Trump’s campaign financially, pledging $45 million a month to a new super political-action committee, America PAC, backing Trump.
