New GOP Sheriff Strips Key Democrats from House Committees

The progressive Democratic Representatives are going to have to deal with a new sheriff in the House. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy confirmed on Monday that there would be a shake-up on the House Intelligence Committee. He said that Democratic California Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell will be removed from the committee and the House will vote on the removal of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Back in February, McCarthy told the press that if he was selected as the Speaker of the House, he intended to strip Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee and both Swalwell and Schiff from the Intelligence Committee. 

And on Monday, McCarthy made sure The Associated Press knew he would be fulfilling that promise and moving forward with his decision. 

McCarthy said Swalwell’s reported relationship with a Chinese spy and Schiff’s defense of the Steele dossier are just some of the reasons these men needed to be replaced. And the speaker has said that Omar’s anti-Semitism the main reason she should be removed from Foreign Affairs. 

“Swalwell can’t get a security clearance in the private sector. I’m not going to give him a government security clearance. Schiff has lied to the American public…,” McCarthy told The AP.

Back in 2021, the Democrats did the same thing to Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. She was stripped of her committee assignments.

When some media outlets reached out to the offices of Swalwell, Schiff, and Omar to tell them about McCarthy’s decision to move forward with removing them from their committee assignments, they did not respond to the news. 

This is likely just the beginning of the things that will be changed with the new GOP majority. More liberal Democrats need to be sent out to pasture by the new sheriff in the House.
