North Carolina Police Investigate Shooting Of Candidate For County Commissioner Home
A Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners candidate says his family narrowly avoided tragedy after multiple gunshots struck their home Monday night.
Aaron Marin, a Republican running for the District 1 seat in 2026, revealed in a social media statement that the shots were “intentionally directed only at our house” while he, his wife, and their two young sons were inside. No injuries were reported, but the impact of the incident was immediate and deeply personal.
“By God’s grace, we are all safe and unharmed — but as a husband and father, there are no words to describe the shock of hearing gunfire directed at your home,” Marin wrote.
According to Marin, the Huntersville Police Department and crime scene investigators responded quickly to the scene. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding suspects, possible motives, or whether the shooting is being investigated as politically motivated. Police did not immediately respond to media inquiries seeking further information.

Marin declined to speculate about who may be responsible, citing respect for the ongoing investigation. Still, the timing of the incident has drawn attention, given his active campaign for public office.
“Violence has no place in our community or in our political process,” Marin said in his statement. “Differences must be resolved peacefully, through dialogue and the democratic process — not through violence.”
Marin is currently the only Republican candidate seeking the District 1 commission seat. He previously ran in 2024 but was defeated by incumbent Elaine Powell. In the upcoming 2026 race, he will face the winner of a three-candidate Democratic primary set to be decided ahead of November’s general election.
Political violence — or even the perception of it — casts a long shadow over local communities. Campaigns are often intense, but incidents that cross into physical threats underscore rising tensions that extend beyond national headlines and into neighborhood streets.
Marin made clear that the shooting would not deter his campaign.
“I will not be intimidated,” he wrote. “My commitment to serving Mecklenburg County and protecting our community remains stronger than ever.”
For now, investigators continue their work, piecing together what led to gunfire erupting outside the home of a candidate and his young family. Until more facts emerge, the unanswered questions linger — along with the unsettling reminder of how quickly civic life can collide with danger.
