NY Gov Cuomo Backs Out Of Attending Game After Over 40,000 Football Fans Sign Petition
2020 was a year like no other in recent memory, divisive politics tainted the NFL football season. However, fans of one New York NFL team sent Governor Andrew Cuomo a very strong message he’ll never forget.
Buffalo Bills fans are getting ready for the playoffs against the Indianapolis Colts and Cuomo (a Bills fan) said that he is going to attend the game. This infuriated fans who have been unable to attend any games this year and they want him to stay the hell away from Bills Stadium.
Buffalo Bills fan, Jeffrey Dorenzo started a petition last week on change.org (liberal petition site), asking for 25,000 signatures to ban Cuomo from attending the game. As of the writing of this post, 40,872 fans have signed the petition to ban Cuomo from the game.
Cuomo recently announced that he is not going to attend the game because he has to rewrite his speech for his address for the State of the State. The real reason he’s not going is that if he shows up what little fans that are there are going to boo him.

“So Cuomo is going to attend our playoff game after telling us that we can only attend at less than 10% capacity? If he thinks he has more right to a seat in that stadium over people who have waited over 20 years for this opportunity, then people better be there to protest his entry,” wrote Dorenzo. “This is OUR team! This is OUR home. We don’t want you here.”
Cuomo announced that only a limited amount of fans will be allowed into the stadium and they will all have to take COVID-19 tests to attend.
“I’m going to take my [COVID test], I’m going to be out there to watch the game with you, and we look forward to it,” Cuomo said to Bills owners, Kim and Terry Pegula.
NYS, @NFL and @BuffaloBills have come to an agreement to allow ~6,700 fans to attend the first home playoff game.
The stadium is outdoors. Every fan must test negative before game, wear a mask & social distance.
There will be post-game contact tracing.
To Bills fans—be smart.

Numerous teams (mainly in red states) are allowing fans to attend games however, most stadiums are only operating at 20% capacity.
