What A Slimeball: Cuomo Uses Trump As A Scapegoat To Explain Nursing Home Deaths
Democrat Governors in New York and Pennsylvania are facing heat over the staggering amount of deaths that occurred in nursing homes.
During his coronavirus news briefing Wednesday, Cuomo claimed that he came up with the policy that nursing homes must take patients that are positive for the coronavirus and claimed the decision was based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Cuomo’s response came after a reporter asked about “a call for a federal probe into how the state handled the nursing home situation,” in particular Cuomo’s March 25 order requiring homes to take in COVID-19 patients from hospitals.
“Look, this is a political season. I get it. I have refrained from politics,” Cuomo said. “Anyone who wants to ask why did the state do that with COVID patients in nursing home, it’s because the state followed President Trump’s CDC guidance,” the governor said. “So they should ask President Trump. I think that will stop the conversation.”
A reporter did follow up and ask if Cuomo’s administration was “fudging the numbers” when it comes to nursing home deaths and Cuomo again blamed the CDC.
“Your first point, why did the state do that? Because the state followed President Trump’s CDC’s guidance. OK. That’s that answer? No numbers were changed,” he said.
Shockingly the New York Times pushed backed and said to Cuomo, “If these were Trump’s guidelines and if Cuomo has consistently demonstrated a willingness to stand up to the administration when its guidance has been in error, why didn’t he stand up to it this time?”
“Well, you have to remember the facts. I know you’re the New York Times, but facts are still facts, right? Even at The Times,” Cuomo said.
“The CDC guidance said a nursing home cannot discriminate against the COVID patient because at that time, the issue was hospital capacity, right?” he said. “Remember hospital capacity? And we were dramatically increasing hospital capacity.”
The big problem Cuomo is going to have with his response is only one other state had the same problem, Pennsylvania. If these were the Trump administration guidelines this tragedy would have occurred in almost every state and during the height of the pandemic Democrats would have scream to high heavens that Trump is killing seniors. Only now that Democrats have been exposed for being the sole reason for all these deaths are they now trying to blame President Trump.
