VIDEO: Pelosi Admits House Dems Could Overturn Iowa Election, ‘There Could Be A Scenario Where…
During her weekly press conference House Speaker Pelosi admitted that she may try to unseat an Iowan Republican who narrowly won her race.
Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks narrowly won the 2nd Congressional District of Iowa by six votes. Pelosi told reporters that the Democratic-led House Administration Committee “is following the law” but it could force overturn the election results and force out Miller-Meeks.
Democratic candidate Rita Hart contested her loss to Miller-Meeks which left the decision up to the House Administration Committee. Hart claims that 22 ballots were wrongfully discarded, and if they were added to the tally she would have won by nine votes.
“At least twenty-two Iowans’ legally-cast ballots still have not been counted due to a string of errors. We are glad to see the house Committee on Administration taking the next step towards ensuring that every legally-cast vote is counted in this race and that all Iowans’ voices are heard,” Hart’s campaign manager Zach Meunier said, in the statement. “Every legal voter in this country has a right to have their ballot counted and the remedy here is clear — count the ballots.”
Earlier this week the Administration Committee voted 6-3 not to dismiss Hart’s petition to challenge the election.
As always, there’s some shenanigans going on that are raising eyebrows. Hart decided not to fight the election in court but bypassed the Iowa court system and appealed directly to the Democrat controlled Congress to oversee the recount. Hart had the right to file a recount and go through the courts in Iowa but didn’t, she’s wants Pelosi to decide.
In January, Pelosi “provisionally” seated Miller-Meeks after a bipartisan elections committee in Iowa certified the results. Despite Pelosi claiming the scenario is “hypothetical” if the House Administration Committee investigates Hart’s claim they could rule for the Democrat controlled House to vote to unseat Miller-Meeks.
If Pelosi and House Democrats overturn an election result in Iowa, Republicans should refuse to sit any Democrat who voted to overturn the election. Draw the line.
