Pence Is Playing a Game of Chicken With Trump
Mike Pence has decided to play a game of chicken with former President Donald Trump. He’s decided to steer right at him and hopes that Trump bails.
While most of the other 2024 GOP hopefuls are dancing around Trump and his chosen endorsements, Pence is going head to head with him and endorsing against Trump in some critical races. Pence is making this move in states that are going to have hotly contested races in 2020.
The latest example of Pence’s hutzpah is his endorsement of Republican Karrin Taylor Robson in the Arizona governor’s race.
“As Arizona Democrats pursue the reckless Biden-Harris agenda, Karrin Taylor Robson is the only candidate for Governor that will keep Arizona’s border secure and streets safe, empower parents and create great schools, and promote conservative values,” Pence said in a statement announcing the endorsement.
Trump has decided to support former local TV anchor Kari Lake in the state’s August 2 primary. “Few can take on the Fake News Media like Kari,” Trump said while endorsing Lake.
Lake has been adamant in her belief that the presidential election was a fraud and that Trump won. She even went so far as to say that Robson should be “disqualified” because she does not believe the election was stolen from Trump.
The experts are saying that the move by Pence to endorse Robson is a rejection of a Trump-endorsed candidate. But it is also an effort for Pence to show that he affirms the 2020 elections were free and fair.
These two men are racing down the Arizona highway towards the head on collision as they hold opposing rallies on behalf of their candidates in the state this Friday.
This isn’t the first move by Pence, he also backed Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in the spring. He was in direct opposition to Trump who was endorsing former Sen. David Perdue. Kemp was attacked by Trump for his refusal to overturn the 2020 results in his state.
Pence is committed to making his way for the future in the GOP Party by proving that Trump is not as strong as people think he is.
He believes Trump is chicken.
