Police Chief Comments About Recent Operations Raise Eyebrows
There’s a special kind of cognitive collapse happening in Minnesota, and it’s now fully on display in the halls of law enforcement — no, not from ICE, but from the Minneapolis Police Chief himself. Brian O’Hara, in what can only be described as a public unraveling, took to the podium this week to warn citizens: if you see federal immigration agents doing their jobs, call 911 — because they might be “kidnapping” people.
Let’s be clear: these so-called “kidnappings” are actually ICE raids — the federal kind, executed by trained agents operating under the authority of U.S. immigration law. The reason for their increased activity? A massive welfare fraud scheme allegedly perpetrated by individuals within the city’s large Somali community. In other words: actual crimes, with actual victims, backed by actual federal indictments.

He says police will “immediately respond” and “intervene.”

But that didn’t stop O’Hara from issuing what looked like a political hostage video disguised as a press conference. He said the public has reported “masked individuals” they couldn’t identify as law enforcement, possibly involved in abductions. No evidence was presented. No footage shown. No arrest records. Just vague, fear-stoking anecdotes that sound pulled from a Reddit conspiracy thread.
Then came the mayor.
Jacob Frey accused ICE of targeting Somali residents “based on appearance” and warned that American citizens would inevitably be swept up in the enforcement. He didn’t seem to understand — or chose not to — that ICE isn’t doing random sweeps. As DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin clarified, what makes someone a target isn’t their race. It’s their immigration status. A distinction that, apparently, Frey and O’Hara would rather blur into political mush.
Even more concerning is O’Hara’s statement that police have a “duty to intervene” if they see something that doesn’t feel right. Intervene in federal law enforcement operations? That’s not only reckless — it’s a recipe for disaster. Imagine local cops disrupting an ICE arrest because someone on a sidewalk was uncomfortable. This isn’t public safety. This is political theater with handcuffs and sirens.

Let’s not forget: this is the same city where, in 2020, police were told to stand down while mobs looted stores and torched neighborhoods. Gov. Tim Walz — yes, still inexplicably in charge — delayed National Guard deployments and watched, seemingly in awe, as the city burned. His wife later admitted to enjoying the smell of burning rubber during the chaos. These aren’t leaders. These are ideologues steering a ship into the rocks while blaming the Coast Guard.
O’Hara’s newfound desire to curry favor with the activist base might explain his bizarre pivot. Just this spring, he took flak from progressives for daring to say the quiet part out loud — that the response to the George Floyd riots was a disaster, and the political climate in Minneapolis has become detached from reality. Now, either out of self-preservation or sheer delusion, he’s backpedaling hard.
