Questions Loom Around Biden’s Remarks Concerning Trump Prosecution – Watch
New questions are being raised about Joe Biden’s 2022 remarks regarding the prosecution of Donald Trump. In June 2022 Biden said, “I never once, not one single time,” suggested to the Justice Department anything about bringing charges. “I’m honest,” he said, pounding the podium.
Kayleigh McEnany raised the issue of what a Times article published on March 31, 2022, said about Biden. She wrote: “But he does have opinions. In the past, Mr. Biden privately told his close circle of advisers that Mr. Trump posed a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted for his role in the events of Jan. 6, according to two people familiar with his comments. He also told confidants that he wanted Attorney General Merrick B. Garland to stop acting like a ponderous judge and to take decisive action.”
And the New York Times wrote: “The attorney general’s deliberative approach has come to frustrate Democratic allies of the White House and, at times, President Biden himself. As recently as late last year, Mr. Biden confided to his inner circle that he believed former President Donald J. Trump was a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted, according to two people familiar with his comments. And while the president has never communicated his frustrations directly to Mr. Garland, he has said privately that he wanted Mr. Garland to act less like a ponderous judge and more like a prosecutor who is willing to take decisive action over the events of Jan. 6.”
Some conservatives are now raising concerns that Biden’s remarks may have been misleading. They point to a recent interview in which Biden said that he had “discussed” the matter of Trump’s prosecution with Attorney General Merrick Garland.
This has led some to question whether Biden was being honest when he said that he would not pressure Garland. They argue that Biden’s remarks in September 2022 were an attempt to distance himself from the prosecution of Trump, while privately urging Garland to go after him.
If this is true, it would be a serious breach of trust. It would also raise questions about Biden’s commitment to the rule of law.
