R. Kelly Reportedly Overdoses and Petitions For Trump Pardon
R&B artist R. Kelly was rushed to the hospital after what his legal team describes as an overdose caused by medication mismanagement while being held in solitary confinement. The alarming claim was outlined in an emergency court motion filed by Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, who argues that the Bureau of Prisons endangered his client’s life.
In the legal filing, Brindley states that prison officials administered a dosage of medication to Kelly that “significantly exceeded a safe dose,” leading to symptoms of overdose. The supplement to the emergency motion asserts that Kelly’s existing prescriptions—for anxiety, sleep, and other conditions—were already delicate to manage, and that the overdose posed a direct threat to his life.
According to the document, Kelly required immediate hospitalization, and his condition added urgency to his legal team’s ongoing attempts to have him moved to house arrest.
Brindley further alleged that Kelly is suffering from serious health conditions that are being ignored. In particular, the motion states that Kelly needs surgery to remove clots from his lungs—a procedure the prison has reportedly denied.
“Mr. Kelly’s life is in jeopardy right now,” the motion reads. “He could die from this condition, and they are letting it happen. There is no legitimate explanation for that.” The attorney emphasized that this situation constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.
Since June 10, Kelly has reportedly been held in solitary confinement following Brindley’s initial emergency motion requesting temporary release. The defense team contends that the isolation has exacerbated Kelly’s medical and mental health conditions and poses further danger.
Brindley is also actively lobbying for a presidential pardon, stating that he’s been in contact with individuals connected to President Donald Trump. Kelly, however, has no documented relationship with Trump, apart from having previously lived in Trump Tower.
Kelly, 55, is currently serving a 30-year sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking, following his 2022 conviction in New York. That same year, a federal jury also found him guilty on three counts of child pornography and three counts of enticement of a minor in a separate trial. These charges alone carry a minimum additional sentence of 10 years.
As Kelly remains in federal custody, Brindley argues that keeping him incarcerated under the current conditions poses a direct risk to his life. The motion is pending, and the court has not issued a ruling on the emergency release or potential house arrest.
