Rep. Clyburn Cancels Appearance
Today, we’re diving into the latest political drama surrounding President Joe Biden and the growing concerns among Democrats about his ability to lead and win the upcoming election. Buckle up, because this is a story filled with tension, loyalty, and some last-minute changes.
In an interview with George Stephanopoulos, President Biden struggled to recall whether he watched a replay of his debate performance. This moment was supposed to calm the nerves of worried Democrats but instead contributed to his less-than-stellar performance. Statements like these did nothing to sway opinions in his favor.
One of Biden’s staunchest supporters, Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, who played a crucial role in Biden’s 2020 primary victory, has been out front defending him. Clyburn called Biden’s debate performance “a bad night,” echoing the White House’s narrative. He made numerous TV appearances to back Biden up, but things took an unexpected turn when Clyburn abruptly canceled his scheduled appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation” just 22 minutes after the show promoted his segment.
Enter Bernie Sanders. With Clyburn out, “Face the Nation” turned to Sanders, who offered his support for Biden, albeit by attacking former President Trump rather than lavishly praising Biden. Sanders highlighted Biden’s spending on climate change, an issue that isn’t topping voters’ concerns this cycle.
As a small but growing list of Democrats call on President Biden to step aside from the 2024 race, we’ll hear SUNDAY from one of the president’s top allies, Rep. @ClyburnSC06, about whether the president should stay the course– and what happens if he doesn’t. This sudden change raises questions. Did Clyburn get a heads-up about Biden’s shaky interview with Stephanopoulos? By the time he canceled, the interview had already been taped. Biden’s camp is notorious for leaks, hinting that loyalists might be losing faith.
Biden’s dwindling support is a serious issue. Democrats are now openly questioning his fitness for office. Some House Democrats have called for Biden to exit the race, though no senators have publicly done so—yet. This may change after a critical meeting on Monday, coordinated by Senator Mark Warner of Virginia.
Warner is reportedly telling his colleagues that Biden’s faltering debate performance means he should no longer remain in the race. Warner’s spokeswoman issued a cautious statement, emphasizing the critical days ahead for Biden’s campaign but not confirming Warner’s stance on Biden dropping out.
In the Stephanopoulos interview, Biden dismissed Warner’s concerns, suggesting it was sour grapes since Warner had supposedly run for president, which isn’t true. This blunder underscores the problem: Biden’s inability to answer basic questions raises serious concerns about his competency.
Biden’s limitations are becoming more evident. He admits needing more sleep and can’t work past 8:00 p.m. His staff have now disclosed he isn’t to be relied on outside of the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This revelation is alarming. America needs a full-time president, and Biden’s part-time schedule is not enough.
