Report Discusses Possible Harris Decision
Kamala Harris’s loss in the 2024 election cannot be blamed on low Democratic turnout. That myth, widely circulated in Democratic circles after her defeat, has now been decisively challenged by newly available voter data, including a detailed Pew Research Center study released Thursday. The findings are unambiguous: if turnout had been higher, her loss would have been even more substantial.
Nate Cohn at The New York Times reinforced a reality that many moderates recognized months ago. Contrary to the belief that disengaged Democrats doomed the ticket, the data shows that millions of young, nonwhite, and infrequent voters did show up—and many of them voted for Donald Trump.
In a stunning reversal of past assumptions, it turns out that the so-called “missing voters” weren’t disengaged progressives but defectors who rejected the Democratic platform altogether.
This internal dispute within the Democratic Party—progressives blaming Harris for failing to energize the base versus moderates warning that radical rhetoric alienated the center—has now reached its data-driven conclusion.
The moderates were right. Voters were not staying home because they weren’t inspired enough. They were voting against a party they saw as increasingly out of touch on key issues like immigration and gender policy.
Nevertheless, party leadership continues to ignore the autopsy results. The recent primary win by Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani in New York underscores that the party is still moving left, despite evidence that this direction is electorally toxic.
Meanwhile, Harris is reportedly preparing a run for governor of California. Yet enthusiasm appears minimal. Major Democratic donors have expressed fatigue and frustration.
Several anonymous fundraisers describe a sense of dread about Harris stepping back into the spotlight, not because of policy differences—but because of the painful memories of the 2024 campaign and lingering questions about her role during Biden’s visible cognitive decline.
The party’s silence during Biden’s deterioration, and Harris’s proximity to it, raises difficult questions. If she was unaware of his condition, it suggests she was sidelined. If she knew and stayed silent, it reflects political cowardice. Either scenario damages her credibility.
