Rob Marciano Joins CBS News
Rob Marciano, the former ABC News meteorologist who was dismissed earlier this year amid allegations of inappropriate behavior, has found a new professional home at CBS News. According to reports from Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, Marciano, 55, has been hired to join CBS’s expanding weather team, marking his return to the airwaves after a tumultuous exit from ABC.
Marciano’s departure from ABC came after several complaints from staff about his behavior, including a heated altercation with a Good Morning America producer.
The situation escalated when Marciano was reportedly “banned” from the GMA studio in 2022 after an incident that made a colleague uncomfortable, during which he was also dealing with anger management issues related to his ongoing divorce. These events led to a temporary suspension and required Marciano to undergo anger management training.
Details of the controversy continued to emerge following his exit, with The Daily Beast revealing that Marciano had been taken off the air for at least a month in 2022 after making inappropriate remarks to a female producer. Despite the string of allegations and internal issues that led to his firing, Marciano has managed to secure a second chance at CBS News.
His hiring has raised eyebrows, particularly because of his connection to Wendy Fisher, a former ABC News executive who now leads CBS News’ weather division. Fisher’s involvement may have smoothed the path for Marciano’s return to network television.
While CBS has not yet released any official details about when Marciano will appear on-air or what specific role he will fill, his re-entry into the media spotlight is already drawing attention. Marciano’s weather career at ABC began in 2014, where he filled the weekend role on Good Morning America after Ginger Zee was promoted to chief meteorologist. However, according to various reports, the working relationship between Marciano and Zee was anything but smooth.
Sources have indicated that tensions between Marciano and Zee were longstanding, with Marciano’s temper causing problems on set. An anonymous media executive described their dynamic, stating that while both were passionate about weather science, their personalities clashed frequently.
“It’s sad because they are both genuinely interested in the science of weather, but unfortunately, their personalities didn’t mesh,” the executive noted. The source added that Zee, described as “alpha” in her approach, often pulled rank and made things difficult for Marciano, creating friction between the two.
On the other hand, sources close to Zee paint a different picture, asserting that Marciano’s behavioral issues were at the heart of the problems. They emphasized that Zee has a well-earned reputation as a collaborative leader who commands respect from her colleagues and has never faced complaints about her working style. Suggestions that her leadership contributed to the rocky relationship were dismissed as “sexist” by Zee’s supporters.
