Romney & McConnell Are Leading A Revolt Against President Trump, Threaten Incoming Senator
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Romney, and other collaborating Republicans are leading a revolt against President Trump.
McConnell has already said he will stand against Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville attempt to contest the 2020 election. Senator John Thune and McConnell will meet with Tuberville when he gets to Washington and are threatening to destroy him should he contest the election with a GOP member from the House of Representatives.
Rep. Mo Brooks is promising to challenge the Electoral College and Tuberville said that he would be the lone Senator and support the challenge. If Brooks and Tuberville do challenge the vote both chambers would hold a two-hour debate and would have to agree on the objection in order to throw out contested electoral votes.
In his usual swampy tone, Senator John Thune threatened Tuberville:
“Ultimately every senator will have to make their own decision about that but I think there will be people, yeah, reaching out him just to kind of find out what he’s going to do. If nothing else, we need to kind of know the plan,” he said. “We’ll see. He’s made some public statements,” he added. “I’m hoping in the end that all senators will conclude that this election needs to be over with and it’s time to move on.”
McConnell said that he will not support overturning the election at all, “Our country has officially a President-elect & a Vice President-elect. The Electoral College has spoken…Today, I want to congratulate Pres-elect Joe Biden.”
Senator Mitt Romney said, “Clearly, if one pushes long and hard, once you’ve lost, you’ve lost.” Romney did not vote for President Trump in the 2020 election and voted to impeach him last January.
These Senators are not just leading a revolt against President Trump they are leading it against the majority of Trump supporters. Seventy-four million people voted for President Trump, who received record support from minorities. Instead of reaching out to those groups, establishment Republicans are throwing it all away.
